Through the developing of more than 20 years, SINOPEC  Safety   Engineering  Institute(SSEI) becomes an important researching base in the technological  innovation,  technical  progress, application development of Safety and Health in petroleum and petrochemical industries in China. It is also the leading technical support organization for the hazards prevention and control of hazardous chemicals, risk assessment of industry safety, consultation, auditing and certification of occupational safety and health management system (OHSMS).

Always based on the principles of first class human resources, first class equipments, first class management, first class technology, first class achievements, SSEI pays great attention to scientific research, and takes scientific research as solid support to technical service. SSEI has successively taken on nearly one hundred research subjects, which includes National 863 Subjects, National Key Task Research Subjects, research subjects from SINOPEC and other state ministries，obtained large number of achievements and patent rights, and being awarded of national and provincial research prizes for many times.

Under the requirements of close to enterprise, close to production, close to market, SSEI pursues the technical service in the kingdom of work safety. SSEI has obtained qualification certificates like safety assessment, risk assessment on the occupational hazard, OHSMS certification, environmental management system certification (ISO14000), national level A of safety training, metrological certification of gas detectors, and HSE supervision for construction sites, which provides a complete set of technical solutions and consulting service for work safety of enterprises.

National Registration Center for Chemicals of State Administration of Work Safety(NRCC-SAWS), Chemical & Petrochemical Safety Technology Institute(STI) also locates in SSEI.
