The US-based organisation Skytruth reports that last Thursday an oil slick was spreading across a large area in Manila Bay near the town of Rosario in The Philippines. Diesel fuel was leaking from an underwater pipeline during transfer from a tanker to an onshore storage terminal.
The size of the spill is not clear and varies according to sources. The local government estimates the pollution to be about 24,000 gallons. The Philippian Coast Guard considers the amount of fuel spoiled to be 132,000 gallons. Fishermen in the Bay are worried about the possible impact on their livelihood. They are discouraged from catching or consuming shellfish caught in the polluted area.
